There’s a tough history behind Alexander McQueens success story. His livelihood as a clothier started when he chose to style and make dresses for his sisters when their family was struggling to make ends meet. He started off as an apprentice in 1990, when he honed his skills with Gieves & Hawkes and Anderson & Shepard. It’s here where he mastered the six indispensible techniques of creative pattern cutting that he still translates into all of his inventions. Things began to seem up when he was made the Creative Director at Givenchy in 1996. Though he himself detested his initial collection, McQueen rapidly came to be famous for his abstract and totally unconventional runway shows. He actually had a mental asylum theme for one of them. He, however, finished his tryst with Givenchy in 2001 and wanted to break free into his own world of artistic and original designing. He sold half of his design business to Gucci, and went on to form his own unrestricted designer line.Most popular for his exceptional shoe designs for girls, Alexander McQueen shoes have become a dominant brand name within the shoe business, challenging with the likes of none other than Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin.
